As a “black nerd,” stand-up comedian André Meadows lives a thug-less, pimp-less lifestyle. Misunderstood by both blacks and whites for not fitting into their stereotypes, he delivers a unique and very humorous perspective on racism exuded from both sides in society, the workplace, entertainment, science-fiction, political correctness, and his own personal life. He has been labeled a “loveable powerhouse” and “like Oliver Wendell Jones live onstage.” His jokes have enough pop cultural references to fill an Entertainment Weekly. Not to mention he has penned the best jingle McDonald’s could never use.
André was born and raised in North Carolina, and started performing stand-up in Austin, Texas. He now resides in Los Angeles, and in his first year, won the Ha Ha Comedy Club Competition. In his comedy career, he has opened for many comedians, including Aisha Tyler and Laurie Kilmartin, was featured in a BET showcase, and hosted a NBC Stand-Up for Diversity Showcase.
He has brought his black nerdy stand-up to The Comedy Store, Room 5, White Boy Comedy, Bobbie Oliver, Organic Comedy, Garage Comedy, and Sunday Night at Kirby’s. In Texas, he performed at Cap City Comedy Club, Esther’s Follies with Texas burlesque group Kitty Kitty Bang Bang, headlined at Antonio’s and the famous Velveeta Room, performed a feature act in a thousand-seat venue, and was a Funniest Person in Austin finalist.
André even delivers his black nerd persona online with his comedy website, BlackNerdComedy.com. In addition to info on Andre’s stand-up and upcoming performances, the interactive site features exclusive blogs, vlogs, and viral videos that further extend and establish Andre’s black nerd comedy brand.
André is also an actor, filmmaker, improv comedian, and even hip-hop persona “Arnie Sykes.” He created the award-winning sitcom/sketch series, TV Junkies, played a lead role in a live table read with Stephen Root and Johnny Hardwick, and starred in the mockumentary The Breakdance Kid, available on DVD. He is currently writing and starring in Soul and Son, a mobile series for the Comedy Time Network about a 70’s Shaft-like crime fighter and his more current son.
He is also the black guy from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Ghostbusters, Designing Women, and Walker, Texas Ranger.
